Since arriving in France in January of 2000, we have learned how to navigate the inland waterways of Europe, and how to live on and maintain a barge. For 6 delightful years, our home port, where we spent our winters, was Roanne, a city in the Rhône-Alpes region of France, not too far from Lyon. In 2007, we had the good fortune to be offered a mooring in the port in Paris that is located near the Bastille, and our barge has now become our apartment in Paris. Over the years, we have been learning all about barging on the canals and rivers of France and Belgium, and we are proud to be part of the moving village that is made up of pleasure barges that cruise in Europe. We continue to learn a new language and to try to understand a new culture. This makes life challenging at times, but always interesting and we hope to share some of our stories with you through our updates. The buttons at the top of this page will help you navigate our web site and our new blog. In 2008, we changed over to a blog, Living on a barge in Paris. We will be adding posts more often, and we invite you to leave a comment to let us know that you check in to read our updates. If you are new to this site, you can read about our adventures from the beginning. On our Links and Frequently Asked Questions pages, we hope you will find some helpful information. The FAQ page was updated in April 2008, and we will continue to keep the site current. If you would like to buy a converted Dutch barge, see the boats that our friends are selling - Barges for Sale |
